For me, I work really, really hard all the time. I’m planing seven books, a theme park, a new town, a fish farm, a hotel—several hotels—a horse riding school, an orphanage, an elderly care village, 50 luxury houses that I’m designing myself, movies, websites, media in all forms … and preparing for revival … right now I’m doing most all of it myself, with God’s help. I tell God I don’t want to sleep anymore, I just want to get the planing work done! Can I stop having to sleep? Then he told me one time that I should stop working harder, stop working smarter and start to work … lighter.
How can you tell you are working in the strength of the flesh, he asked me? He told me use your nose. What do you smell? Sweat? Do you hear the sound of your heavy breathing? Enter My rest, he said, and he will help you in all your work.
Then he asked me if I want to start the Theme Park now. I have lots of planning done, but it seemed like he meant to do more than abstract planning. YES! I said. Ok, then write a science fiction story .. it will be a movie, and used in the theme park as the basis for a themed area. C.S.Lewis was used by God to communicate the Gospel to children and I saw that he was looking for someone to continue his work. He showed me there were characters God would give to mankind, they would come from heaven and be birthed into the imaginations of writers and movie producers and he was waiting for people who wanted to be given his inspiration. When I began to write Starquake I can’t tell you how many times I just felt like I was in a flow of fun, creative energy and later when I edited the story I was shocked to see the underlying connections, symbolism, parallels and themes that I wrote by accident and which turned out to be like masterful literary thematic threads all through the story. People will think I’m some kind of genius. I’m not, but I listen to one on a regular basis.
